Security guards at a nuclear weapons plant in Texas went on strike this week over new fitness requirements that could cost many their jobs. BWXT Pantex in Carson County outside Amarillo is the only nuclear weapons assembly plant in the United States. The contractor responsible for the plant says the strikers were replaced when the walkout began

Marathon overnight talks between the Histadrut labor federation and the government failed to avert the walkout, which began at 9 a.m. (0700 GMT) because thousands of municipal workers haven't been paid for months. BBC journalists and technical staff are to stage a 24-hour strike in a row over jobs which threatens to disrupt radio and TV news programmes, unions announced. Members of Bectu and the National Union of Journalists will walk out on February 26 after votes in favour of industrial action.
